Why is the Bush Administration stalling on saving the Polar Bears?

Polar bears are in real danger of becoming the first mammal to go extinct as a result of global warming. In the repot from Greenpeace USA says,
Alarmingly, scientists predict that the Arctic could be ice-free in the summers as early as 2012, but in many cases the ice has been melting even quicker than expected.
What is taking the Bush Administration so long to put the Polar Bears in the endangered species list? How many bears have to die before this administration realizes that their stalling tactics will bring the bears closer to extinction? 10 bears, 100 bears, 1000 bears?!!! Just give us a number so we will all know when a decisive action will finally take place to save these great animals.

Very sad about these polar bears. I remember hearing about this in articles before. It was said the the number of polar bears are declining do to the loss of ice in the polar region. These bears go miles looking for food and ice... they swim looking for a place to relax... and they drown do to exhaustion. Very sad that this is caused by Man... But then you wonder why nobody does anything about it... hmmmm... profit maybe... Well, I guess I have to find a good picture of a polar bear to show my kids when they grow up. "See children, polar bears were real at one point..." Very sad to think about it. But a lot of people believe that its better not to think about bad things like this, instead of doing something about it... so... Farewell my dear polar bear... (sigh)

I'd LOVE to hear a direct answer to that excellent question myself from the current administration. It's strange how some oil companies seem to benefit the longer it takes to officially put the Polar Bears on the endangered species list. I tell you, there must be a special place in Hell for people who consciously disregard Nature so much for the greedy sake of making a buck!!!

It's very emotional to see the images of polar bears wandering around looking for food. I'm not sure that it is an easy fix. I'm not entirely educated on how money is allocated to solve problems, but I am sure the government is inundated with many emotional subjects like the tragedy of the polar bears. Good for you, that you are giving your energy and time to bring this issue to more ears.

The polar bears are just one very visible piece of evidence that validates the dramatic climatic changes we're facing in the near future. Much has been written about their plight, because of their recognizable status, but we have to remember that it's not just the polar bears we're losing...it's the entire arctic ecosystem that is in serious danger. The polar bears are a keystone species. AS their numbers decline, the natural balance will shift and there will be a domino effect as other species face a similar demise. I'm glad that polar bears are getting the exposure they deserve in this time of environmental change, but I hope that the spotlight on them doesn't minimize the damage that will be done to countless other species, and ultimately to our own local environment and economy.

Unfortunately... many people do not put any effort, support, or fight into a cause in which they feel does not affect them. But, in retrospect... the tragedy of these polar bears is an environmental crisis... which in turn ... everyone has played their part in it... whether they choose to believe it or not... therefore... being a part of the disollution of the ecosystem. It starts with conserving the environment... so that these polar bears (and other species) can continue to survive in their natural habitat. I bet if people put themselves in these polar bears' position... and quickly saw their lives, their friends and family.. coming to an end... they would beg for help! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help conserve our environment and save our wildlife! -Mikki

The reality is the Bush Administration has and will, until he is finally out, been extremely bad for the environment as a whole. The fact that their feet dragging is potentially going to allow for the extinction of such a noble animal is par for their course. And not forgiveable.

Hmmm...I agree that the loss of polar bears is quite devistating. As far as the Bush Admin doing anything, I'd actually prefer they focus on saving our troops...but that's just me. Saving polar bears is in our own hands. If everyone took the responsibility of "living green" we would be able to deter global warming...and save those furry little buggers. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...come on, we learned this in first grade!

Polar bears rock!!! Let's end the suffering! If Bush doesn't get it together we'll be the ones slouched over, tired and hungry. Keep up the good fight! I commend you for bringing attention to the plight of the polar bear and global warming. Save the polar bears really is a call to save our planet!

Yes on Polar bears! No on Bush! Let's legalize ferrets while we're at it!

Why does the Bush Administration stall on everything for that matter, much less take action to address the plight of our polar bears? Unless the citizens of this country continually elevate the severity of the potential extinction of our polar bears, get enough support nationally to put pressure on Bush to take action, this issue will remain at the bottom of the environmental priority list, unfortunately. Let's hope this can happen and soon.....

It is sad about the Polar bears but it isn't the Bush administration that is doing it...if global warming is true than it didn't just start in the last 8 years..perhaps clinton could have done something too to help out but we don't ever think to criticize him for his lack of keeping "global warming" at bay...then again, it's just easier for people to blame him for everything that is wrong with the world instead of looking at themselves and the problems that we, as human, creat by just being...just my opinion

its hurtful to know what is going on because of global warning. This is happening because of us. Animals are in danger, we must do something in order not to have polar bears as in danger species and every other animal.
